Wellness and Growth with Dana

Greetings, brave soul. I am genuinely delighted you're taking these brave and important steps to invest in yourself.

I believe deeply in the therapeutic alliance between client and counselor for effective growth and change. As a counselor, I aim to build a safe relationship with my clients where they feel heard and seen. I support clients through the various stages of life by equipping them with tools to help them navigate difficulties while remaining present in their day-to-day lives.

Together, we’ll trust the process, take it one day/session at a time and work towards healing and growth.

Counseling Approaches

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT encourages embracing thoughts and feelings rather than fighting against them. We'll learn to accept unpleasant emotions while committing to intentional actions aligned with our values. By focusing on mindfulness and values, ACT guides us to be fully in the present and pursue what truly matters.

Internal Family Sytems (IFS)

The IFS therapeutic approach sees the mind as composed of various "parts," each with its own emotions, thoughts, and functions. These "parts" may be younger versions of ourselves who are highly critical, anxious, ashamed, embarrassed, or trying to help us navigate overwhelming emotions. This approach aids in befriending and integrating these parts, enhancing self-awareness and emotional regulation.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a therapeutic approach specifically designed for treating a variety of mental health conditions including trauma. This method utilizes guided eye movements, tapping, or alternative techniques to assist clients in processing challenging memories and diminishing their emotional intensity.

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-centered therapy builds a strong therapeutic alliance with clients, allowing individuals to engage in self-exploration and growth. This supportive environment fosters acceptance and understanding, leading to benefits such as improved self-esteem and emotional well-being. By providing a non-judgmental space, clients gain valuable insights and growth towards self-acceptance.

Philosophy of Counseling & Credentials

I view my clients as whole persons, with physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. I respect my client's religious and spiritual orientation; therefore, discussions of the spiritual perspective within sessions will be entirely up to the client.

As a mental health professional working with a diverse clientele, I am committed to an integrated approach of compatible theoretical perspectives within a culturally appropriate context. These perspectives include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. These approaches are well-established and researched methods of counseling that are widely researched proving to be effective forms of emotional and mental health treatment.

I received my Masters in Christian Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (CACREP Accredited) and licensed to practice in South Carolina. Although my degree is from a seminary, I do not practice as a Christian Counselor. I practice under the accountability of the ACA Code of Ethics and the South Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors.
